PURPOSE
The Sun City Festival Softball Club (the Club) is to provide an organized framework where residents may play the game of softball. It’s open to all SCF Association residents (owners/renters). We currently have 3 skill levels of players, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. We play year round with three separate sessions, i.e., Winter Session Jan – Mar; Summer Session May – Sep; and Fall Session Nov – Jan.
NEW MEMBERS
New member must complete the online registration (on website) and pay their annual dues (currently $50.00). After registering, new members will be receive information and a welcome letter from our Membership Chair as well as being informed by the Ratings Committee /chair as to the next scheduled ratings session. Here each new member will be rated as to skill level and assigned to one of the three tiers previously mentioned. More information on ratings can be found here. This rating will determine which league(s) a member is eligible to sign up for. The Club provides each new player with a club hat and a set of home & away jerseys.
VOLUNTEERING
All Club members are required to perform volunteer duties within the Club. We are a volunteer organization and cannot function without the help and participation of all our members. Positions include:
Field Maintenance, Score Keeping, Umpiring, Team Managers, League Commissioners, Committee Chairs, and Club Officers. Training for volunteer positions will be provided as needed.
LEAGUES
Currently the Club has two types of leagues; 1) Community Leagues (divided into Tiers) which are open to Club members only and 2) West Valley (WV) Leagues which are determined by Tier and are by invitation only. Club members may participate in more than one league. Check out our current leagues here.
TEAMS
Team size is generally determined based on the number of players who signup for a league. Typically the # of players is divided up so each team has 12 players (with odd numbers some may have 13). We normally limit team size to no more than 15 players (to ensure all players get playing time).
SUBSTITUTES
When club members are unable to commit to a team full time we allow them to signup on the sub list for league(s) they may qualify for. Then when a team manager knows in advance a player or players will miss a game or games the manager can pull a player of equal ranking from the sub list.
GAME DAYS
We currently have games four days per week (Monday – Thursday). As our community grows we expect to extend our play into Friday and possibly Saturday. Based on weather a typical game day will have games start mid-morning and end mid-afternoon. Due to cooler temperatures Winter games may start a little later and with hotter temperatures Summer games will start quite early to beat the heat.
TRAINING AND PRACTICE
Periodically the Club will schedule training (infield, outfield, batting, etc.) for members who feel the need to learn more about a particular skill. The Club also schedules a number of open practices during the year so members can work on improving their skills. Currently our training and practice sessions are scheduled for Saturday mornings.
CLUB CALENDAR
We publish a Club calendar on our website. This calendar lists games, practices, ratings sessions, etc. Please check the calendar for Club happenings.
SPECIAL CLUB EVENTS
From time to time we may hold a special event such as a “1-Pitch Tournament”, a cookout, or our Annual “States Tournament”. Stay alert for announcements for these events.
