The Sun City Festival Softball Club is a chartered club in the Pulte/Del Webb Community of Sun City Festival in Buckeye, Arizona. Our Club was chartered in December 2007. On April 26, 2008, we celebrated the opening of our softball field at Sun City Festival, Del Webb Memorial Field.
We play senior softball year-round at Sun City Festival. From November through March, we have the opportunity to play in different leagues. Our Tuesday White Tank League consists of teams of players of all skill levels from within our community. Our other community leagues have teams that are balanced with players of different skill levels. Community League teams are drafted from a pool of players who have signed up to play on our GroupWorks site. You must join Groupworks in order to be drafted.
Our most competitive league is the West Valley Senior Softball League (WVSSL) and consists of teams from Sun City Festival and other West Valley senior communities such as Sun City Grand, Sun City West, and Trilogy. The WVSSL league has two ability tiers. Tier II plays on Mondays, and Tier I plays on Wednesdays of each week during the Fall/Winter season at our Del Webb Memorial Field. The West Valley teams are hand-picked by the respective managers.
From May thru September, we play summer softball, with games beginning early in the morning. Games are played against teams from Sun City Grand, Sun City West, and Trilogy.
In addition to the games in the community leagues and WVSSL leagues, the Softball Club sponsors our annual StatesTournament in March for all SCF softball Club members. It is a one week event with teams made up of all tier levels, and with a championship game at the end of the week. Players are assigned to a team based on States that they lived in or worked in. To ensure balanced teams some players may be assigned outside of their listed state/region.
The softball field is closed during the month of October for grass reseeding and infield maintenance.
Our members share umpiring, field maintenance and scorekeeping duties for all the games. In addition, we have Committees set up to support each of the functions of the Club, to include Safety, Player personnel evaluation and several others. As a Club member, you not only have the opportunity to play senior softball, but also help your fellow club members by volunteering on various softball Committees, managing a team, Commissioner of a league, and/or be a member of the Board of Directors.
